The purpose of the National Park Service (NPS) Inventory and Monitoring Division (IMD) is to provide data on the health of park ecosystems to park management in order to guide policy and management decisions. IMD requires protocols to be reviewed and if necessary revised following trend analyses approximately every 10 years. Major changes to sampling regimes proposed as a result of trend analysis and evaluation require power analyses to ensure that methodological changes will maintain the ability to detect change. The objective is to have USGS conduct power analyses to evaluate potential changes to the sampling regimes used by Pacific Island Network (PACN) to monitor water quality in the coastal brackish aquatic ecosystems of multiple parks within the PACN.
