There is growing concern regarding the increasing extent, frequency, and/or severity of algal blooms in many NPS-administered units. Because these blooms are spatially and temporally variable, new tools for efficiently detecting, mapping, and monitoring algal blooms are needed.

This project will focus on the development and testing of remote sensing techniques for quantifying the presence, spatial extent, and temporal dynamics of potentially harmful benthic algal blooms.
